A substantial participation in a “revolutionary” method of agriculture…
Biodynamic agriculture. For some people it’s an alternative method of cultivation-marketing. For most of them it’s definitely a revolutionary method of cultivation. The phrase biodynamic agriculture means, in a way, life. And life gives strength so that the planting, the watering and, in general, the care of the plants to offer fruits ready for the people to consume.
The History concerning the biodynamic agriculture begins in 1879. Back then, Rudolf Steiner, a 15 year old student from Slovenia who studied Biology, Chemistry and Physics, observed that he was able to “read”, “hear” and “see” the spiritual existences, behind the natural phenomena. He started studying Psychiatry on an scientific basis, creating the science of Humanosophy.
A few years later, in 1924, some cultivators showed interest for the philosopher Rudolph Steiner, who was already known for his hylistic- scientific therapeutic method, and asked his help for the production of quality products.
His lectures spoke about the greedy human power, who forces people to analyze in a cynical way everything, leaving behind the other side of this world, the sensitive one. A new way of farming begun, that considered as important the understanding of the natural procedures and their practical use. Besides the elements of nature (earth, water, air and heat) there are some other parameters that participate to the procedure, such as sun and moon, day and night.
Sun is known that he participates in the creation and development of life. Earth breathes in from noon till midnight and breathes out from Midnight till noon. That way soil and roots are better fed. The moon also takes place in this natural procedure, by the power of gravity and by offering his light, helping the flow of the moisture the development of the plants.
The development of the roots is getting better when we don’t have a full moon and when the moon in in his apogee, when the gravity towards earth is confined. The better time for the planting is between 2 days before a new moon and 7 days after that. The increasing light helps the development of the leaf, the offspring and the roots. That way a trust relationship between the farmer and the vineyard is created. It;s a philosophical and physical approach in the Viticulture and vinification, offering the wine a new dimension, by respecting the nature.
