Propolis is a substance produced by bees, that comes out of the resins of the plants and is enriched with wax and pollen. Propolis is used by the bees to contaminate the honeycomb.
The color of the propolis is dark brown, depending on the plant and the admixtures of wax and pollen. In temperatures less than 15 degrees Celsius, propolis is hard. After 30 degrees, gets more fluent and transforms to a viscous substance.
The chemical composition of propolis depends on the flora of the area and consists mostly of resin, wax and pollen.
The therapeutic properties of propolis were known even in the ancient times. People who lived in the Mediterranean coastline, used propolis as a medicine, recognizing it’s anti-inflammatory effects.
